Baldonnel Aerodrome: 1917-1924
On a sunny but blustery Sunday afternoon, around 30 members enjoyed a tour around Baldonnel Aerodrome conducted by society member, Lt. Col. Miachel O’Malley (Rtd). This included a stop which marked the take-off location of the ‘Bremen’, which made the first successful East-West transatlantic flight.
After the tour a most informative talk was conducted in the auditorium, which dealt with the establishment and building of the aerodrome and early aviation activity in Ireland. Refreshments followed in the delightful Officers’ Mess.
