La Touche Legacy Seminar

The La Touche Legacy seminar is now in its 26th year and will be held on Friday/Saturday/Sunday 26th, 27th & 28th September in Greystones, Co Wicklow.

This year, in association with the Greystones Archaeological and Historical Society, we are holding a “Festival of History Weekend” and we are inviting your society to be part of this weekend.

The main theme of the weekend will centre on the anniversary of World War 1 with the Great War Roadshow making a visit to Greystones. The Roadshow has been put together by RTE broadcaster and historian Dr Myles Dungan the author of two works on Ireland and World War  -, Irish Voices From the Great War (1995) and They Shall Not Grow Old (19997). Myles will be joined by:

Turtle Bunbury presenter of The Genealogy Roadshow on TV and author of forthcoming book on 40 Irishmen in WW1.

Dr Ciaran Wallace an academic and broadcaster, Ciaran is a social historian associated with Trinity College, Dublin.

John O’Keeffe a criminologist, broadcaster and journalist, John is an adjunct teaching fellow in the School of Psychology, Trinity College.

Brendan Flynn local Wicklow historian specialising in Military History.

In addition to the Roadshow there will also be talks from Rosemary Raughter, Cllr Chris Fox, Deputy Anne Ferris and Lord Meath adding their special flavour to the Festival weekend.

The weekend ticket to include all 9 lectures will be €30 and to include Saturday night’s  Seminar Dinner (dinner and lectures) costs €50, tickets are available from Kay Coughlan at 01 2876694 or email kcoughlan@wicklowcoco.ie

This weekend is envisaged as an opportunity for local history societies throughout the country to showcase their activities and make contact with others involved in the field.  We are therefore inviting your group to take a stand at our Seminar Centre at Charlesland Golf and Country Club, Greystones to present your findings, display your journals and publications, and publicise forthcoming events. While material relating to World War I will clearly be of particular relevance to the theme of the weekend, it is hoped that the event will also display the very wide range of research currently being undertaken by local history and heritage societies in the country. If you wish to take a stand for the weekend, please confirm with Kay as above.

On behalf of the La Touche Legacy and Greystones Archaeological and Historical Society we look forward to welcoming you to this exciting Weekend Festival of History.
