Archaeological Archives in Ireland – Creation Curation and Content

The Academy Committee for Archaeology has prepared a brief discussion document: Archaeological Archives in Ireland – Creation, Curation and Access.

This discussion document originates from a one day conference organised by the Committee in February 2012 entitled: ‘Archaeological Archives as a Resource’. This meeting highlighted the concern that a wealth of data produced by numerous archaeological excavations in recent decades was not being properly collected and curated.

This discussion document aimed to develop a series of recommendations relating to best international practice that will build a cohesive policy and strategy for the creation and management of archaeological archives on an all-Ireland basis.
