KAS Events – Heritage Week on the Curragh

The County Kildare Archaeological Society hosted its National Heritage Week event ‘Interpreting the Curragh of Kildare’ on Saturday and Sunday last 26 and 27 August.  The large attendance varying from 40 to 50 as individuals maximised their time to take in as many local heritage events as possible, joining in or departing at different locations.  One of these was the Mayor of Kildare, Cllr. Martin Miley who joined the group to add his support and spoke of the importance of the Curragh as being of immense archaeological, cultural, environmental and historical significance.  Over the two days the participants took the opportunity to visit and add to their knowledge of one of the nation’s outstanding and best-known landscapes in the company of a panel of archaeologists, historians, geologists and ecologists.  During the two-day event the group heard contributions from Hugh Crawford, Adrian Mullowney, Michael Jacob, Mary O’Connor, Padraig Clancy, Noel Dunne and Con Manning.
