This seminar will explore methods of research and will include a visit to the National Archives which houses many documents that are important and useful tools for researchers.

First Lecture: This was their World
Brendan Matthews, Community Historian, Old Drogheda Society.Going beyond the National Repositories; What to look for and where to look, Brendan will outline local repositories that can be found all over the country, the material of which can be invaluable as a research tool for Local Historians. 

 3.00-4.00 – Second Lecture: Sources for Local History in the National Archive.
Gregory O’Connor, Archivist National Archive.
Gregory joined the National Archive in 1989 and has spent most of his time since in the provision of reader and correspondent services. He has lectured to Genealogical and Local History Societies both at home and abroad. He is also Chairman of the Rathfarnham Historical Society. Gregory will describe record collections held by the National Archive which are of value to Local Historians, these will include very considerable holdings of Court, Landed Estates, Valuation, Ordance Surveys and Business records.
